Tobacco Cessation Improvement

HIV+ smokers now lose over six years of life expectancy from smoking, more than the HIV infection itself. People living with HIV smoke at rates 2-3 times higher than the general population, putting themselves in danger for AIDS-related and non-AIDS related illnesses. According to the Medical Monitoring Project, 42% of PLWH in New York State self-reported being current smokers between 2009- 2014. The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute designed this campaign to improve the health of PLWH by decreasing the morbidity and mortality of HIV+ tobacco users.
