With deep sadness we note that Leanna Thornton passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2021. Leanna was an active part of AI advisory bodies and councils from the age of 15. Smart, creative and energetic, Leanna quickly became regarded as a role model and colleague amongst her peers, within the AIDS Institute and across many NYS communities. Leanna was a spokesperson for the NYS HIV Stops With Me campaign. From an early age Leanna told many people that her goal was to work for the NYSDOH AIDS Institute. Only six months ago Leanna applied, interviewed and was hired as the Peer Engagement Manager in the Office of the Medical Director, AIDS Institute.
